I know the definition. Why does "explain" still cost me marks?
What does a four-mark answer on Paper 2 need that mine keeps missing?
Paper 4 asks me to plan an investigation. What does a full-mark plan include?
I know what osmosis is. Why do I lose marks when the question is about water potential?
Paper 1 gives me 40 questions in an hour. How do I stop rushing the last ten?
Each section of the 5090 syllabus taught in Cambridge's order and in the syllabus's own terms, so the words in the question are words you have already used.
A short check at the end of each section, marked as you answer, so you know it has landed before you move on.
Real 5090 questions on one topic at a time, from the sittings in the bank. Multiple choice is marked the moment you answer; written answers come with the mark scheme to tick against.

About
This is the Cambridge O Level Biology course, written against syllabus 5090 for the 2026, 2027 and 2028 examinations.
It follows the syllabus in Cambridge's own order: cells, classification and movement into and out of cells; biological molecules and enzymes; nutrition, transport and gas exchange in plants and humans; respiration, disease, excretion and coordination; reproduction, inheritance and biotechnology; and organisms in their environment. Each section is taught, checked, then practised on questions from real 5090 papers.
The question bank holds real questions from Papers 1, 2, 3 and 4, and from Paper 6, the number the Alternative to Practical paper had before 2023. Papers before 2023 were set on the earlier 5090 syllabus. Multiple choice is marked the moment you answer. Written answers come with the mark scheme, so you tick what you earned, point by point.
Paper 3 is sat in a laboratory. The course teaches the skills it tests, but it does not replace practical time at school. It is recorded: there are no live classes and no messaging a teacher.
Access runs to the date printed against your sitting.
Outcomes
Work through Paper 1's 40 multiple-choice questions inside the hour
Tell "describe" from "explain" and "suggest", and answer each the way the mark scheme rewards
Explain osmosis in terms of water potential, and what it does to plant and animal tissue
Explain how temperature and pH change enzyme activity: shape and fit, denaturation, collisions
Plan an investigation with controls, record results in a table and draw the graph Paper 4 wants
Use magnification = image size / actual size without losing the unit mark
No. Lessons are one step of six. At the end of each section comes a short check. Then come real past-paper questions on that topic from 5090 papers, a full paper on the real clock, and a revisit list built from what your child says still does not make sense. Watching starts the work. It does not finish it.
Cambridge sets the practical 20% two ways. Paper 3 is a practical test sat in a laboratory. Paper 4, the Alternative to Practical, is written. Your child's school decides which. The course teaches what both test: planning an investigation with controls, recording results in a table, drawing the graph and reading what it shows. The question bank holds real Paper 4 questions and those of Paper 6, its number before 2023. It does not replace time in a school laboratory.
Sit with your child and open their account. Every paper they sit carries a light. Green means everything correct. Yellow means mistakes, marked against the answer key or the mark scheme, so you can see where the marks went. Red is the one your child sets: after checking an answer, they can say it still does not make sense, and that topic stays on their revisit list until they clear it. Red is not a bad score. It is the list worth talking about.
Keep the tutor. A tutor has a few hours a week. This is open at every other hour: real 5090 questions on any topic, multiple choice marked at once and written answers checked against the mark scheme. The revisit list, the topics your child has said still do not make sense, is a good thing to bring to the next session.

Every lesson should make difficult concepts clear, build confidence and help students learn effectively, through simple explanations, practical and real-life examples, and focused exam preparation.
Aurundutee Ameen teaches Cambridge O Level Biology (5090) and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Biology (4BI1), after twenty years in education: teaching, training, counselling and curriculum development. That work has been with English-medium institutions including Excel Academy, Southbreeze and Australian International School Dhaka, and Aurundutee founded and directs Ascend Scholars Institute. The focus is on the concepts students commonly misunderstand: finding them and making them simple through clear explanation, practical and real-life examples, and exam-focused guidance, so students get past the confusion, build confidence and learn with purpose.
Movement into and out of cells
Diffusion, osmosis and active transport for Cambridge O Level Biology 5090: how molecules cross the cell membrane and how to explain it the way the exam asks.
Hormones and human reproduction
How FSH, LH, oestrogen and progesterone control the menstrual cycle and ovulation, and how an imbalance in these hormones can disrupt reproduction.
Natural selection
How variation, competition and selection let better-adapted organisms survive and reproduce, so useful characteristics become more common over generations.

Real questions from 5090 Papers 1, 2, 3 and 4, and from Paper 6, the number the Alternative to Practical paper had before 2023, from sittings between 2016 and 2025. No. The course is recorded, with no live classes and no messaging a teacher. The checks and the mark schemes show where the marks went; they do not answer questions. If you need someone to explain, keep a teacher or tutor for that, and take your revisit list to them.
